Who is Mister PVG / Paras V. Gudka?

Introduction

Mister PVG (full name: Paras V. Gudka) is a chess, branding, marketing, design, photography, and communication professional from Nairobi, Kenya temporarily based in Bangalore, India.

He is currently planning—and gradually executing—a return to part-time work as a digital nomad after a career break of 3+ years due to health issues.

Educational Background

Mister PVG studied Fine Art at Karnataka Chithrakala Parishath, Bangalore from 2002–2003; Advertising and Graphic Design at Wigan & Leigh College, Bangalore from 2003–2006; and Business Administration at Oshwal College, Nairobi in 2010.

In 2022, he completed the Essential Proofreading certificate course from the Institute of Publishing, London and his next goal is to complete the Essential Copy-Editing certificate course by Q3 of 2028.

Mister PVG has worked as a Graphic Designer, Web Designer and Developer, Copywriter, Photographer, Proofreader, Copy-Editor, Chess: Organiser, Equipment Seller, Trainer, Arbiter, Journalist/Press Officer, Administrator, and more since 2006.

His formal chess titles awarded by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) include: IA (International Arbiter), DI (Developmental Instructor), and ACM (Arena Candidate Master).

Social Initiatives and Volunteering

Mister PVG volunteered at an Oxfam charity shop in Maidstone in 2006; served as the Director of Play of Nairobi Chess Club in 2010; founded and served as the Chief Blogger and Editor of Chess Events EAC—a website dedicated to covering chess events in East Africa—in 2010; founded and served as the President of Westlands Chess Club in Nairobi from 2011–2013; served as the Secretary of the Sports Committee during the Festival of Friendship in Nairobi in 2015–16; founded and served as the Chairperson of Anchor Chess Club in Nairobi from 2016–2017; and served as the Rating Officer of Chess Kenya in 2017.

In 2022, he revived Westlands Chess Club by organising one blitz and two rapid tournaments and entering a team in the national league. In 2024, he sponsored and co-organised two FIDE-rated rapid and blitz tournaments in Mauritius.

Mister PVG is addicted to learning and requires a lot of intellectual stimulation.

Ergo, when not busy on his laptop, he can be found reading books; solving jigsaw puzzles on a dedicated table; playing Scrabble competitively; travelling; learning a new language; consuming YouTube videos on health, geopolitics, aviation, investing, psychology, business case studies, history, etc.; playing strategy games on his phone; watching reality, comedy, thriller, adventure, and erotic shows; photographing nature and architecture; hiking up mountains and through forests; riding/driving really fast; listening to music and creating custom playlists on Spotify; and, occasionally, catching a movie at the cinema.
